Based on the comic book series of the same name, the film has gone on to become a cult classic among film and sci-fi fans the world over. Now, Comic Con Liverpool 2020 is proud to bring you FLASH GORDON - THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY SPEICAL!

SAM J. JONES - SPECIAL GUEST
Samuel Gerald Jones, known professionally as Sam J. Jones, is an American actor best known for playing the title characters in Flash Gordon and The Highwayman. Sam made his first film appearance in the 1979 romantic comedy film 10 which allowed him to beat Kurt Russell and Arnold Schwarzenegger for the role of Flash Gordon. The film was moderately successful at the box office but has gone on to become a cult classic. He had guest roles in other TV shows including The A-Team, Hunter, and Riptide.
In 1987, he played the lead role in a TV adaptation of Will Eisner's comics character The Spirit. He also played the title character in TV series The Highwayman. In 2007, he played the prisoner Krebb in the television series Flash Gordon. He also had extended cameos in both the 2012 comedy film Ted and its 2015 sequel, Ted 2, sporting his Flash Gordon blonde hair. In 2019, Life After Flash, a feature-length documentary starring Jones, directed by Lisa Downs & produced by Ashley Pugh, was released worldwide. Life After Flash celebrates the 1980 classic featuring interviews with cast, crew and fans including Melody Anderson, Brian Blessed, Peter Wyngarde, Mark Millar, Robert Rodriguez, Stan Lee and Brian May.
BRIAN BLESSED - SPECIAL GUEST
Brian Blessed, OBE is an English actor, writer, television presenter and singer, known for his booming, voice and his role as Prince Vultan in Flash Gordon. He has also played PC "Fancy" Smith in Z-Cars, Augustus in I, Claudius, Richard IV in The Black Adder, Duke Thomas Beaufort of Exeter in Henry V, Boss Nass in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and is the voice of Clayton in Disney's Tarzan. In 1966, he was offered the titular role of The Doctor in Doctor Who, to take over from William Hartnell, but had to turn down due to conflicting projects. Brian played Long John Silver in the 10-part serial Return to Treasure Island, King Yrcanos in the Doctor Who serial Mindwarp, General Yevlenko in the mini-series War and Remembrance, and Lord Loxley, the father of Robin Hood, in the Hollywood film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. In 1999, he provided the voice for Boss Nass in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and also provided the voice of Clayton in Disney's animated feature film Tarzan. A keen boxer in his youth he claims to have sparred with the Dalai Lama, has also attempted to climb Mount Everest three times without supplemental oxygen, reaching heights of 28,200 feet in 1993 and 25,200 feet in 1996. He holds a 3rd dan in Judo and is the oldest man to go to the North Magnetic Pole on foot, and has undertaken an expedition into the jungles of Venezuela, during which he survived a plane crash.
MELODY ANDERSON - SPECIAL GUEST
Melody Anderson is a Canadian social worker and public speaker specializing in the impact of addiction on families. She is a retired actress, whose most high-profile role was playing Dale Arden in the 1980 adaptation of Flash Gordon. She later starred in the 1986 film Firewalker, with Chuck Norris. While singing, she also trained as an actress, leading to roles in films and television during the late 1970s and 1980s. Her first national exposure was as a guest star in the 1977 series Logan's Run and as a "Sweathog" in an episode of Welcome Back, Kotter. She made numerous guest appearances on television, including Archie Bunker's Place, Battlestar Galactica, Dallas, T.J. Hooker, CHiPs, the pilot episode of The A-Team and The Fall Guy. She had recurring roles on St. Elsewhere and Jake and the Fatman. She was the female lead of Manimal and was a guest star in the Murder, She Wrote episode "Prediction: Murder" in 1989. Melody played the female lead Dale Arden in Flash Gordon (1980) and Janet Gillis in Dead and Buried (1981). In 1983, she played the title role in a made-for-television film called Policewoman Centerfold, in which her character, a divorced police officer, is fired after posing nude for a men's magazine (based loosely on the true story of Springfield, Ohio patrolwoman Barbara Schantz, who was subsequently fired from her job after posing nude in Playboy magazine in the early 1980s).
